On the eve of World Tuberculosis Day, the Department of Internal and Family Medicine held a scientific seminar on the topic “Immunological Methods of Tuberculosis Diagnosis”, at which Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Svitlana Bokova revealed problematic issues of tuberculosis diagnosis in Ukraine and the possibilities of their solution using immunological methods.
The seminar participants were introduced to the principle of the Interferon-Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) method, which is the most common type of blood test used to detect tuberculosis infection in more than 80 countries around the world. The similarities and differences of the QuantiFERONTB Gold (QFT-G, Qiagen GmbH, Gilden, Germany) and T-SPOT.TB tests were examined in detail. (Oxford Immunotec Limited, Abingdon, United Kingdom (UK), their evolution and advantages. Molecular genetic methods such as DNA probing and polymerase chain reaction were also discussed.
The students of groups 202, 211, 212, as well as interns of the specialty “General Practice – Family Medicine” of the 1st and 2nd year of study had the opportunity to discuss, express their opinion or ask questions to the speaker.
